Summer School again

God does everything have to be so pressured. Got a new page up for the summer school portal - CSS layout: Summer Schools Home Page at the University of Edinburgh. And before anyone starts complaining I know I have used a table - but appropriately and not for layout.

Greek Summer

Phew - very last minute today but got a temp filler site up for Google to start indexing at the Greek Summer School at the University of Edinburgh

Great - what would I do without 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). Been using it for a couple of years for compression with a GUI. But decided it was time to look further. Excellant features in the command line - will start to experiment with some of these switches.
Using the command line u (update) in a bat file will save me time backing up my all important local work directory. Open source rocks!

The Missing LINK and Skip Links

I've been looking into using the underused -link- element as a replacement for traditional skip links. I've always found the -a- tag methods a little clumsy if you don't want a visible skip link.

If you put a -link title="Skip Links" href="theidofanelement" rel="bookmark"- directly after the in the header it allows text readers (lynx, links) to see that as the first link - allowing the bypassing of banners etc to an element in the main content. And its not rendered by visual browsers (that I know off).

Microformats

Well i'm really into this microformats business - www.microformats.org on a couple of sites I'm woking on (http://www.theatrestudies.llc.ed.ac.uk and http://www.ace.ed.ac.uk/architecturalalignment )

Using the Tails plugin ( http://blog.codeeg.com/tails-firefox-extension-03/ ) to view microformats on the fly. Excellant.
